There are lots of ways to enjoy the plants grown here at Leaves for Life. Whether you’re brewing a cup of tea or adding one of our powdered botanicals to your favorite foods and drinks, we hope these ideas inspire you to experiment and find your own favorites.
🍵 How to Brew
Loose Leaf Tea
Using a tea infuser, place 1–2 teaspoons of loose plant material into your favorite mug.
- Heat water to approximately 180–200°F, just below boiling.
- Pour the water over the plant material.
- Cover and steep for at least 10 minutes.
- Remove the infuser and enjoy!
A longer steeping time will generally result in a stronger infusion and can extract more of the plant’s water-soluble constituents.
Pre-Filled Teabags
Place one teabag in your favorite mug.
- Heat water to approximately 180–200°F, just below boiling.
- Pour the water over the teabag.
- Cover and steep for at least 10 minutes.
- Remove the teabag and enjoy!
A little note about our teabags: Our teabags are the pillow-top variety rather than sealed bags. Covering your mug while the tea steeps helps retain heat and also allows the plant material to settle, minimizing agitation and reducing the chance that small pieces escape from the bag.
Tip: Tea can be enjoyed hot or chilled over ice. Check the individual blend descriptions for our suggestions on how each one is best enjoyed.
🥄 How to Use Our Powders
Our powdered botanicals open up even more ways to enjoy the plants we grow. Because the plant material is finely ground, powders can be mixed directly into foods and beverages rather than brewed and strained like a traditional tea.
🌿 Moringa Powder
Moringa powder has a mild, green flavor that makes it easy to incorporate into everyday foods and drinks.
Try adding it to:
- Smoothies
- Scrambled eggs
- Soups
- Sauces
- Salad dressings
- Dog food
- And more!
Start small and experiment until you find the amount and combinations you enjoy.
💙 Butterfly Pea Powder
Butterfly Pea powder adds a beautiful natural blue color and a subtle botanical flavor to foods and drinks.
Try it in:
- Smoothies
- Lemonade
- Yogurt
- Baked goods
- Frosting and icing
- Natural food coloring
- And more!
One of the fun things about Butterfly Pea is watching its color change when it encounters acidic ingredients such as lemon or lime. A little powder can turn an ordinary recipe into something pretty spectacular!
🎨 A Note About Butterfly Pea as a Food Color
Butterfly Pea flower extract is permitted by the FDA as a color additive for certain food uses. Our Butterfly Pea powder is made from the dried flowers we grow, so we love seeing all the creative ways people use this naturally vibrant botanical.
We’re not bakers either, but we’ve seen some pretty amazing purple swirls, colorful frostings, and vibrant drinks made with Butterfly Pea!
